House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones, is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Ice, also a prequel itself. It is filled with such historical detail and intricacy that you cannot help being drawn into the storyline and allowing the creators to rewrite history.
The first episode is a hit: it establishes the central characters, theme and plot, which is useful when viewers are thrown into another world of names and family relations that are not the easiest to follow. Yet, it is the core of the narrative that unifies all differences and brings everything down to earth: honour, status and ancestors are the all powerful and bring the characters into a mundane circle that they cannot escape.
